Event Description
Join Rick Levine, one of TACS' most popular trainers, and Kit Gillem, Program Director at M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust to learn what foundation and corporate grant makers expect of experienced grant writers. Receive direct feedback about your proposals while working in small groups with a staff person of a major regional funder. You will also get to meet some of the major foundation trustees who make the final decisions on your proposals and learn how and why they make their funding decisions.
Don't miss this opportunity to:
- See your proposal through funders' eyes in small group discussions with regional program officers
- Sharpen your writing skills
- Hear foundation trustee perspectives on grants decisions
- Build relationships with funders
Preparation
Bring eight (8) copies from a two-page summary of a current or recent grant proposal. This narrative description should completely describe your program. If the writing sample is for a funder with specific requirements, please re-format the information so that all aspects of the project/program are covered. Using this material, you will join experienced peers and leading grant makers for feedback about your strategy and presentation. You will learn what the strengths of your work are, as well as be better able to spot bad habits weakly presented material, and unfounded assumptions. You can expect to come away with a new understanding of what you can do to increase the likelihood of getting your proposals funded. (Note: Foundation reps have asked that participants view this as a learning opportunity, and suggest that people not bring material that has already been highly successful.)
Who Should Attend
Experienced grant writers - those who have written 3 or more successful proposals for foundation support.
