Carol Hickman

Nonprofit Association of Oregon (NAO) Director

 

Carol E. Hickman brings over twenty years of public and private sector program development and management to her position as NAO's first full-time director. A graduate of Brown University, Carol earned both a BA in American Civilization with an emphasis on early Colonial material culture and certification as a secondary level teacher. She taught high school history and coached women's soccer in New Jersey and Maryland, and then worked for a major Washington, DC law firm as the case manager of a complex Title VII class action on behalf of professional African American employees of the Library of Congress.

Prior to joining NAO Carol served Oregon's nonprofit community for seven years as the public program director of the Oregon Council for the Humanities. She is a frequent grant panelist for the Oregon Cultural Trust and the Oregon Arts Commission, and is currently a board member of Live Wire! Radio. Carol's recent nonprofit volunteer work includes fundraising for the Portland Farmers Market and Write Around Portland, service on an advisory committee for SMART, and board work with the Friends of the Multnomah County Library. She has written for the Oregonian and Oregon Humanities magazine.
